How to build a private-label dog ear-care line

Ear cleaning is a high-repeat, preventative-care routine — which makes it a dependable own-brand category. But a single bottle leaves money on the table. Here's how to plan an ear-care line that sells as a set and grows basket size.

1. The core two-SKU line (start here)

The strongest, simplest ear-care launch is two products that match how owners actually clean ears:

  • Liquid ear cleaner — the deep clean. A gentle, non-medicated solution (witch hazel · aloe · allantoin) in a squeeze bottle with a directional nozzle, for flushing wax and debris.
  • Ear finger-wipes — the quick, mess-free daily touch-up. A finger-mitt wipe for the outer ear between deep cleans.

Together they cover both jobs and let you launch a recognizable ear-care set rather than a lone SKU.

2. Formats & sizes by channel

ChannelFormat & size that fits
DTC / AmazonCleaner 4oz & 8oz squeeze bottle · ear wipes 50/100 ct · a cleaner+wipes kit as the hero listing
Retail shelf4oz / 8oz cleaner with clear "gentle · alcohol-free" front panel · wipes tub or soft pack
Groomer / salonGallon cleaner (bulk, best cost-per-use) · bulk wipes

3. Optional third step: a drying / finishing aid

Floppy-eared and water-loving dogs are the heaviest ear-care buyers, and owners worry about moisture. A cosmetic drying/finishing step (witch-hazel-forward, alcohol-free) rounds out a premium set — positioned as "helps the ear feel dry," never as a treatment.

4. Bundle to lift basket size

A cleaner + wipes kit sells at a higher price point than a single bottle, raises average order value, and is exactly the "Wash & Dry"-style kit that leads the category on Amazon. Plan the kit as your hero SKU and the singles as entry/refill.

5. Positioning & the natural tier

The winning shelf position is gentle, natural, non-medicated — "USDA-organic-friendly," alcohol-free, fragrance-free, lick-safe. That's the mid-premium tier where private label wins, and it keeps you clear of the medicated/drug lane (no "treats infection," no "kills mites").

6. MOQ, cost & how to launch

A liquid ear cleaner typically starts around 3,000 units per SKU; ear wipes around 10,000 packs. Start with the two-SKU set (cleaner + wipes), spec-matched to a benchmark you like, and add the drying aid and gallon size once the line proves out. Insist on the compliance pack (SDS, INCI, challenge/stability, per-batch COA).

Build it with Aimo. We make the whole ear-care line under one roof — a non-medicated liquid ear cleaner and matching ear finger-wipes (nonwoven is our core capability) — spec-matched to your brand, with a 7–10 day sample and the compliance pack.
