Professional dog shampoo concentrate manufacturers for private label (2026): dilution ratios, gallon formats and 14 suppliers
Groomers buy shampoo by the gallon and dilute it at the tub. A distributor or salon brand that wants its own label therefore needs a manufacturer that understands ratios, refill jugs and hard-water behaviour, not just a retail bottle. This guide explains the numbers the trade uses and compares fourteen suppliers that publish concentrate or gallon capability.
The ratios, in plain numbers
| Ratio | One gallon (3.78 L) of concentrate yields | Where it is used | What to test before believing it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8:1 | about 9 gallons (34 L) | conditioners, deshedding shampoos, mobile groomers without a dilution station | slip and residue after rinse |
| 16:1 | about 17 gallons (64 L) | everyday salon shampoo; the most common back-bar ratio | foam and cleaning in the salon's actual water hardness |
| 32:1 | about 33 gallons (125 L) | high-volume salons and kennels with a mixing station | final-use pH and preservative level after dilution |
| 35:1 and 50:1 | 36 to 51 gallons (136 to 193 L) | degreasing and whitening pre-washes; some horse lines | hard-water performance, coat feel on double coats |
The refill formats that go with these ratios are the 1-gallon jug (3.78 L, the US default), the 135 oz jug (4 L, used for export and EU), the 2.5-gallon and the 5-gallon pail. A retail companion SKU is usually 16 oz ready-to-use or a 12 to 16 oz concentrate with a dilution chart.

How to brief a concentrate so the quote means something
- State the ratio and the water. "16:1 in 250 ppm hard water" is a brief; "concentrated" is not.
- State the refill pack. Gallon, 135 oz or 2.5-gallon changes closure, dosing pump and freight class.
- Ask for the after-dilution test plan. Final-use pH, foam, rinse, coat feel, residue, combability and microbial control at the diluted level.
- Ask whether the retail companion is the same batch. Same fragrance does not mean same formula; ask for batch and fill records.
- Keep the claims non-medicated. Flea and tick, antibacterial, antifungal or treatment wording moves the product into the EPA/FDA or veterinary lane and to a different set of manufacturers.
Where Aimo stands
The US suppliers above have proven gallon formats and, in GlobalPrivateBrands' and EZ-Groom's case, published ratios. Aimo does not yet have a verified concentrate and says so; what it offers is a development program with the evidence gates written down, the same liquid line that already fills its ready-to-use grooming range at about 5,000 units per SKU, and the ability to quote a professional refill, a retail companion SKU and matching wipes on one cost sheet. Decision specification and evidence pack: professional grooming concentrates.
